Let’s Get Asia Bibi Out of Pakistan

Asia Bibi, is a Christian woman who lives in Pakistan, and the mother of 6 children; one of many thousands of Christians across the world who are persecuted for their faith. Asia was arrested in 2009 after an argument with fellow workers whilst picking berries. She was subsequently arrested and imprisoned. In November 2010, she was sentenced to death by hanging. Many people have called for her release, including both Pope Benedict and Pope Francis.

More recently, Asia’s sentence has been overturned, and she has been released from prison, but has had to go into hiding, along with her family.

There is a short film about Asia Bibi’s plight here

Dr Cocksworth, the C of E’s lead bishop on international affairs, has said: “In common with Christians around the world, the Church of England has been deeply distressed by the case of Asia Bibi. We call on the government of Pakistan to ensure that the decision of the nation’s supreme court is upheld. It is important she is offered every protection as she and her family seek to rebuild their lives.”

What can you do to support and help Asia Bibi? Here is a petition to support Asia which you can find sign. It petition calls on the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, to allow Asia and her family to leave Pakistan safely and begin a new life elsewhere.
