Our Award Winning Volunteers

It was wonderful to hear that our fabulous hardworking Holiday Club volunteers had been nominated and then shortlisted along with 2 other amazing groups of volunteers for the Grass Roots Community Action Award in the Blackburn with Darwen Community Volunteer Awards.

We felt very humbled but excited to find ourselves at King Georges Hall on Monday surrounded by such amazing volunteers from individuals to organisations such as Community Spirit, Nightsafe, The Interfaith Forum and of course Renee Black who is 95 years old and still volunteering a truly inspirational lady.

Like the Oscars!

We admit there were squeals and a few little tears when to our surprise we were announced as the winners of our category — even though there were 11 of us representing our group the stage seemed so big and it was an amazing experience to be acknowledged in this way. It was like being at the Oscars.  We were really sorry that Pat was on holiday so couldn’t be with us but we are sure she celebrated.

Thank you everyone

There are no words to thank our fellow volunteers who help us deliver the holiday club from helping to cook & serve food to helping with games, crafts and activities. A Huge thank you to everyone who visits to deliver fun activities and most of all the children for being so amazing we are so proud of everyone.  A special thank you to the Shadsworth & Whitebirk Big Local Board whose support helps to make this possible.

Who else won?

It was fantastic that we were alongside 3 other local individuals and groups shortlisted in these awards Kay and Sabina from Accrington Road Centre were both shortlisted in the Grass Roots Community Action Individual award— congratulations to Kay on receiving the award.  The wonderful volunteers at Whitebirk 2000 were shortlisted in the Prosperity, Learning & Employment group award it is an amazing achievement for everyone.

Thank you again from Cheryl, Pat and our amazing team of volunteers
