Lots to celebrate on Fathers’ Day!

Today we celebrated Fathers’ Day with the help of a fish, a snake, a loaf of bread and a fossilized jellyfish – all to help us to understand that our Dads, our heavenly Father (and even Santa) don’t neccessarily give us everything we ask, but they do give us good things. Good parents sometimes have to say ‘No’! In grattitude, all the men in church received a bar of Cadbury’s Milk Chocolate – lots of bars were also taken out to Dads being visited later in the day – only the best for the best!

We each held a small stone as we thought about all the bad things in the world that we felt sad about. As a symbol of bringing these things to God to ask for forgiveness and healing we placed the stones on the altar – all lined around the edge – and then the Vicar lit a candle as a symbol of hope, love and forgiveness.

Later we brought pictures of different sorts of bread and placed them in a Thankyou Box to say thanks to God for the love and hope we had experienced in our lives this week.

Then we sang about Jesus’ wonderful love – complete with actions. Please note the Vicar can still touch the floor despite her age!

Then it was time for our uniformed organisations to collect their Colours.

Some special news!

The MU members in the photo below had clocked up 180 years service between them and received long service awards at the Deanery festival earlier this week! Well done to Steven (on the left representing his wife Sheila), Maureen and Barbara, and Pat and Doreen on the left!

Cheryl, our Rainbow and Brownie leader received her 20 years service award this week – we presented her with flowers to say thanks for all her fantastic work!  In the Midlands her lovely twin daughters Natalie and Kirstie received their 10 year awards at the tender age of 27 – well done you two – we’re very pround of you!

Finally, Alex, one of our young people,  was 18 this week so we had birthday cake to share and Alex blew out his candles with great style – as ever! Alex is a lovely young man – we’ll really miss him when he goes off to Uni in September!

Congratulations one and all!

Flowers and a gift voucher have been sent to Ella today as she moves into her new home in Cirencester this Tuesday. These lovely flowers from Lakeland Ltd are arranged in a pretty enamel tea pot which we hope will remind Ella of all her friends at St Oswald’s. Gernerous donations enabled  us to send a £60 gift voucher too.We miss you, Ella!
