War Memorial Flowers

In late 2018, Joseph Morris, St Oswald’s gardener, cleared out the planter around the listed war memorial. It was solid with weeds, poor plants and exhausted soil. So he started again by removing everything, laying a new drainage layer and introducing new soil and plants.

He wanted the replacement Spring planting to echo the red poppies we associate with Remembrance. So he chose restrained red tulips and dark red primulas. These are now just coming into bloom.
