We’re never boring!

Sunday mornnig’s service was action packed as usual! Upon arrival, members of the congregation were asked to scoop a cup of water from a bucket on the church steps and empty it into another bucket on the chancel steps. This was part of our consideration of this morning’s gospel reading about the Samaritan woman and her encounter with Jesus at the well. Our messy sermon group made a paper chain of all things we use water for, including Baptism – I was really pleased that they remembered this one! They also thought about girls in many countries across the world who are unable to go to school because they need to carry water for the household.

Later on we sang Happy Anniversary to Sheilagh and Norman Small on the occasion of their Golden Wedding. It was lovely that they came back to the church where they were married 50 years ago to share their joy!

After the service Canon Michael and Carol donned their red nose gear and we had a cake sale in aid of Red Nose Day. We raised £ for this good cause. Thanks to everyone who contributed so generously!

We carried water to help us think about the woman at the well, and women across the world who still cary water today. Our Messy Sermon Group made a paper chain, the links representing different uses of water: it is shown here surrounding a figurine from Cameroon – the Vicar brought this back from a WCC visit many years ago, as a reminder of the women and girls she saw  carrying water for their hosueholds.
