Bowel Cancer: Meeting Yourself in Unlikely Places

Carol Ratcliffe, a very committed member of St. Oswald’s, keeps meeting herself in all sorts of strange places. This isn’t because she’s busy – meeting herself coming back (although she is a very busy person), but because she is one of the ‘faces’ of Cancer Research’s new poster campaign highlighting bowel cancer testing. Carol was treated for bowel cancer two years ago and has now fully recovered. Blackburn with Darwen has one of the lowest response levels to bowel cancer testing in the UK so Cancer Research along with the NHS is running a publicity campaign. Men and women between 60 and 74 should receive a test kit every two years. If you don’t receive a kit please contact your GP and ask for one! If you receive a kit, please use it: this was how Carol discovered she had bowel cancer which meant she received early treatment: that’s why she is so well and energetic today!

The photo at the top shows Carol reading about herself in the Lancashire Telegraph. Below, Carol ‘meets herself’ at a bus stop in Stubbins and in the Doctor’s surgery where she was Practice Manager. She has also been spotted on the side of a bus in Chester and in several bus stops in Manchester. If you spot Carol anywhere, please send us a photo and we’ll add it to this blog.

Big congrats to Carol for her bravery, determination and positive view on life!
