The guided walk at Brookside

Starting the Trail at the Stanhill Memorial Gardens

We were pleased that the weather was dry after all the rain last night. It was an enjoyable guided walk around the new Stanhill Heritage Trail in the morning, led by Andy Barnes and David Morris. Such a lot went on in this area from 1750 to 1850 with great changes in the textile and agricultural spheres. It left an impressive heritage.

Fun and chat at the Moments of History exhibition

At 1 o’clock the focus shifted to the Moments of History exhibition at St. Oswald’s Church. Here, David Disley ‘set to’ with the Spinning Jenny and demonstrated how it all worked or at least how it was meant to work! Being made of timber, the Jenny had become temperamental in the recent damp weather.

The Jenny was complemented by exhibitions of church plate and parish memorabilia as well as displays about Saint Oswald, Oswaldtwistle, the early Industrial Revolution and St. Oswald’s parish and its architectural heritage.

Among the visitors was the Bishop of Manchester (top photo) who was visiting three of today’s events in the Blackburn area.
