The Diocese wants to make people aware of the recent rise in a particular type of ‘scam’ email being sent to parishes across The Church of England, including in this Diocese.
Recipients may think the email is genuine because the scammers usually pose as people you will be familiar with, such as Bishops, Archdeacons, other clergy, fellow parish officers or Diocesan staff. The email encourages people to purchase gift vouchers.
Be on your guard but please don’t be alarmed as there are several tell-tale signs that can help identify the emails. If in doubt, anything that looks suspicious is better left unanswered and reported instead. Do not purchase anything.
